WHITEWATER TIMELINE

2003 – GFHTA and Town of Great Falls chosen as Stakeholders in Duke Energy process for relicensing of the Catawba-Wateree Hydro System

​

2003-2006 – met monthly with stakeholders from both Carolinas to develop a Comprehensive Relicensing Agreement (CRA).

​

2006 – CRA was submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

​

2008 – existing license expired and was renewed annually until license was issued by FERC.

​

2015 – License issued by FERC

​

2017 – Because of need to update Recreation Management Plan, construction schedule did not begin until complete

August 2021 – Construction began simultaneously on Long and Short Channels 

​

December 2022 – January 2023 – Construction will be completed

​

March 2023 – opening of Nitrolee Access area and both channels with recreation flows
